How To Talk To Your Provider About Cord Blood Banking

Providers who stay up to date with stem cell research and embrace innovation often recommend cord blood banking for parents. While speaking with your OB/GYN, doula, or midwife about cord blood banking, the following may be helpful:

  • Anja Health's OBGYN and doula advisors do not think delayed cord clamping is necessary, but they do support it for up to 45 seconds. Anja Health parents can still do cord blood banking if they delay for maximum 2 minutes. The remainder of the cord blood can be banked from there.
  • Feel free to also show or send your provider Anja's Provider Partner Guide, which showcases how cord blood, tissue, and placenta banking works.
  • Be sure to show what Anja Health partners have had to say about cord blood banking at Anja Health. Direct videos, podcasts, blog posts, and more that have been written or produced by doulas and OB/GYNs can be found below.
  • If your OBGYN or midwife does not want to bank cord blood, cord tissue, or the placenta (sometimes, especially placentas are taken against patients' wishes), ask if your OBGYN or midwife can note in your medical record that they are refusing to bank the cord blood, cord tissue, and placenta against your wishes. This ensures that they are held accountable for their own medical decisions and that they are proceeding with what is best for the patient.

"You can't work backwards, you won't have that opportunity later to go back and get that cord blood, cord tissue, or placenta. Bank with Anja." - Heidi, Your Charlotte Doulas and host of Birth Story Podcast

"Anja's founder has an amazing personal story - her brother couldn't find a stem cell match. I banked blood for each of my 3 kids, and it's so nice to know that I have it." - Dr. Allison Rodgers, Fertility & OB/GYN Doctor and Doctor TikTokker
